First District Livestock Breeders Receive Livelihood Program

Gov. Bong Lacson led the distribution of breeder piglets to the towns and cities of the First District of Negros Occidental, spearheaded by the Provincial Veterinary Office in San Carlos City, Wednesday (September 2).
The towns of Calatrava, Toboso, Don Salvador Benedicto, and the cities of San Carlos and Escalante received 150 heads of breeder piglets as part of the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program.
The PVO also distributed veterinary drugs, supplies and biologics, and allowance for all paravets of the First District worth a total of P620,000.
Gov. Lacson said that he hopes the project will continue to be sustainable as with the same program implemented in other districts of the province.
He said it is intended to help more beneficiaries to ensure food security and sustainable development in the province amid the worldwide pandemic.
Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Renante Decena said that the province’s Animal Genetic Improvement Program aims to breed and produce healthy livestock to produce quality meat products, at the same time, augment the livelihood and local employment opportunities within the community.
Present in the activity were First District Board Members Araceli Somosa and Rommel Debulgado, Mayor Renato Gustilo and Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona of San Carlos City, Mayor Marilyn Era of Calatrava, and other local officials.
Gov. Lacson also had a site visit to the proposed Animal Rescue Center that is soon to rise in San Carlos City, and the Free-Range Multiplier Farm, which is a joint project of the province and San Carlos LGU.
