Negros Occidental was recognized recently by the Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas for its employment facilitation programs.

Sharon Juance, manager of the Provincial Employment Services Office-Negros Occidental, said the Regional Grand Winner award was given to the province for being the Best PESO Employment Information System Implementer in Region 6 in the first-class province category.

Under this recognition, the provincial government has implemented a database with the highest number of registered jobseekers and registered establishments in the province, that helped facilitate potential employment opportunities for Negrenses, she said.

“We have registered more than 8,000 jobseekers facilitated by the provincial government – this does not include those from the cities and municipalities, while the registered establishments in the province were 2,500,” she said.

Also, the DOLE-Region 6 recognized Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson for his support of the program.

In October, the province played host to the 19th National PESO Congress.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, the guest speaker at the opening program, had urged local government units to establish their own employment offices to boost their efforts in generating jobs.

He said PESO has made a huge contribution in terms of job generation, adding that facilitation of jobs needs the help of the local government.*MPE
